Sudzers November 2019 meeting notes

Hello, Sudzers! In November’s meeting, we met a new member, discussed alkalinity when brewing, and tasted eight delicious brews. Thanks to everyone who showed up!
Please don’t forget there will not be a meeting at Steins in December.  As usual, we will have an annual winter party.  See details below.

Business:
– Welcome new member, Devin!

– Derek collected $25 membership dues. Dues must be paid each calendar year and can still be made to Derek via Paypal at derek@sudzers.org via Friends and Family please.

– Derek attempted to auction off the remaining Sudzers polo, but unfortunately it was too large and there were no takers.

– The Annual Sudzers Winter Party was announced which will be held on Saturday December 14th in San Jose.  An RSVP request will be sent out and directions will be sent to those who RSVP.  This year we’ll have a white elephant again, so please bring a wrapped gift along with some beer to share and a potluck dish.

– We announced some great recent competition wins: David W won 1st for his Berliner Weiss and Cliff won 3rd in the Cal State Fair European Sours category.  Chet also won the Campbell Oktoberfest.  Congratulations Sudzers!  Keep up the great brews and good luck in next year’s comps.

– Annually the club does a Dark Matter Brew Day in November, but unfortunately we were not able to secure a host location.  Instead, a sign up sheet will go out to request members brew this month for it.  We’ll schedule a blend day in the spring.

– A request to submit nominees for Homebrewer of the Year award will go out soon, so please be on the lookout.  The winner will be announced at the winter party.

-The current group of officers are willing to continue next year in their roles.  Please send your ideas for the club to our esteemed President Robert so that we can incorporate into the schedule for next year, including topic ideas for Sudtalks.

– Robert  gave an impromptu talk on the importance of water Ph when brewing.  The book, Water: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers (Brewing Elements) by John Palmer and Colin Kaminski is highly recommended.  This BYO article is a good start to understanding the importance of Ph at all stages of brewing from strike water to the final beer.  The Principles of pH – Brew Your Own
